In early 2017 Becky Sedgwick, who had been our Family Life Coordinator, changed her role to become our part-time Schools' Worker (she now spends the rest of her working hours with BRF where she is undertaking nationwide research in the area of multi-generational church and faith).
Her role
- is to be a distinctively Christian presence in our local Schools (see below) and in doing so to provide opportunities for the staff, children and parents to encounter Jesus Christ for themselves and to grow in faith.
- is to be the key link person between the schools and St James’, looking for opportunities to enhance relationships, work together and support one another.
- is to be part of the mission and ministry of St James’ Church.
- is to assist the schools in their delivery of Collective Worship and to enhance their understanding of Christianity as a living faith rooted in the Bible and in relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Schools she works in include:
Bishop Cannings CofE Primary School
Southbroom Infants School
Southbroom St James’ Academy (SSJA)
The Trinity CE Primary Academy
On a weekly basis she can be found:
- running after School Clubs at SSJA: Rollercoasters and Impact
- delivering collective Worship: primarily via School assemblies
- organising school services in the church: principally Easter, Harvest, Christmas and Leavers
- and organising school visits to church
In addition to the work carried out by our Schools' Worker we are increasingly working alongside Devizes School.
