The Noise
The Noise is St James' key way of collectively showing God's love in Devizes; with teams of volunteers from the community making a positive difference in our community. Our Noise coordinator, Jenny Jones, explains it like this; “We talk about The Noise as ‘showing God’s love in practical ways’. We believe that God loves and cares about our community in Devizes and wants us to get involved and help out where there are real needs to be met. Whether it’s picking up litter, playing football with young people or hacking back brambles, we want to show our community some practical love.”
Past projects have included: - improving community buildings - enhancing community spaces - clearing parks and pathways - painting benches in Drews Pond Wood - creating wildlife areas in local schools - clearing gardens, painting and DIY for those in the most need - litter picking |

Devizes and Area Foodbank
Working with neighbouring churches and organisations in the Devizes area St James' actively supports our local Foodbank, providing finance, food and volunteers.
We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we support the Foodbank, who provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. Devizes Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. St James' is a Foodbank collection point - the collection bin is at the front of church near the office door. |
Devizes Opendoors
St James' supports in work of Devizes Opendoors by providing volunteers, finance and in aligning ourselves with their work.
Devizes Opendoors, is a charity that has been set up to help people in the Devizes Community Area to find solutions to homelessness; to offer support to local people when they are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and to benefit local individuals in need, including the marginalised and vulnerable. Opendoors exists 100% for the benefit of others, in particular those who are homeless or at risk of becoming so. For the last few years it has provided three cooked meals a week at St. John’s Parish Rooms, Long Street and there are about 15 – 20 people there at most sessions. Along with the good food and company there is the chance of a shower and a few other things. The guests are a mixture of rough sleepers, sofa surfers and those with their own homes but with issues that can make their tenancies vulnerable. |
